Essay and Short Story Competition for Libyan University Students

This Wednesday, November 27, 2024, the activities of the essay and short story competition for Libyan university students organized by Al-Zaytuna University in its fourth edition concluded at the university's headquarters in Souk Al-Ahad. The event was supervised by the university's Student Activities Department and sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research under the slogan "For a Creative Student," with the participation of 35 students from various Libyan universities.

The event was attended by the university's president, Prof. Mohamed Abdul Sadiq Mohamed, the director of the University Activities Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mohamed Salem Dabnoun, the dean of the Faculty of Media at the university, Dr. Ibrahim Ishtawi, the director of the Student Activities Department at the university, Mr. Abdul Hakim Mohamed Aqeel, the Sheikh of Souk Al-Ahad, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Kareed, as well as several directors of Student Activities Departments from Libyan universities, a number of faculty members, staff, and a large crowd of guests.

The "Judging and Evaluation Committee" consisted of a selection of professors of Arabic Language and Literature from the university. The winning students and those who ranked in the top three in each category, as well as the participating students, were honored. The results were as follows:

**Essay Category:**

- **First Place:** Student Shahd Al-Hadi Ghaith (University of Zintan), Title: “Is it Easier for the Listeners or the Observers?”

- **Second Place:** Student Fatima Issa Abu Bakr (University of Sebha), Title: “The Palestinian Issue”

- **Third Place:** Student Mariam Abu Al-Qasim Abu Sabaa (University of Tripoli), Title: “Death Boats”

**Short Story Category:**

- **First Place:** Student Abrar Zahir Al-Tahir (University of Tripoli), Title: “In the Depths of Darkness”

- **Second Place:** Student Hajar Saleh Al-Hubasi (Al-Zaytuna University), Title: “The Bleeding Jasmine”

- **Third Place:** Student Asil Abdul Razak Rizq (Al-Asmari University), Title: “A Nail of Conscience”

In conclusion, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Imran Al-Qeeb, and the director of the General Activities Department at the Ministry of Higher Education were honored, as well as Dr. Moussa Al-Amari Bashir, the former director of the University Activities Department at the ministry. This recognition was a token of appreciation from Al-Zaytuna University for their significant efforts in supporting and encouraging student activities. Additionally, the participating universities in the competition were honored, along with the members of the judging committee and those who contributed to the success of this event.
